We flew into Delhi late last night and pretty much went straight to bed. AT did note that there were no camels and elephants in the street like the last time she arrived but we have been assured there is still time for that. Thank goodness.
In the light of day we saw that Delhi is a bustling, action-packed city. There are people everywhere. Actually, there are at least 3 more people than you would expect everywhere. It is one of the most densely populated cities in the world and you feel that.
This will be our only sight-seeing day in Delhi so we had an overview tour of some of the main parts of the city. We started with a visit to the country's largest mosque, Jama Masjid. I didn't get any photos inside, but did get some from outside. Following the mosque, we took a rickshaw ride around the neighboring area of Old Delhi. The rickshaw took us down the narrow streets that aren't navigable by car. We got to see people packed in upon stores packed in upon streets all surrounded by the most miraculous electrical wiring ever.
My favorite spot we went to today was Qutab Minar. It includes the world's tallest minaret and dates back to the 12th century. The complex is a mash-up of different cultures' and religions' architectures. Adding to the mash-up, some Indian folks asked to take their picture with us--we are a novelty around here. Unfortunately, no one told AT and I that smiling is uncool...
